And if they hadn’t? As a person of privilege, my family could withstand a much longer shutdown. A lot of families can’t. What would have caused the Republicans to agree to extend the ACA credits? How many more weeks would they allow people to suffer?

It’s reasonable to be skeptical about the Rs delivering a vote on the ACA subsidies. I believe the chances are greater for that to happen than for the Republicans to have ended the shut down in the foreseeable future. There has to be a viable endgame.

As a person with a full pantry, no dependent children, affordable, healthcare, and all kinds of other privileges I support holding out longer. But if the assessment is that the Rs we’re not going to budge in the next week, two weeks, eight pay periods? A lot of people are suffering.
