Amazing book and looking forward to the rest of the series, great recommendation

Actually, if you look at the poll, they dont

Imagine what good he could do if he was as obsessively dedicated to something benefiting society as he was to hating trans people

The media has fallen in line to Trump like a man falling in love with a physically beautiful woman who has told him to his face that she plans to poison him for the insurance payout

Maybe some nature docs/light bio pics? I agree with your indignation though, "Peril" can be judged synonymous to most narrative conflicts - which if you strip out of a long form piece of fictional media, leaves you with... slop?

"Suggestive themes" and "mild language" rule out romance/comedy.
December 6, 2024 at 8:59 PM
Its anecdotal, but Moana got slapped with PG for "Peril" - meanwhile, in the lion king, the main character's dad is literally brutally murdered and gets a G rating

Some notable G-rated films I'd doubt would be G-rated today. Ratatouille and Lion King among them.

I think in order for a film to be G-rated today, it needs to be so anodyne so as to be long-form brain rot

Is this some insanely deep cutting Bill Gross reference?

Should someone be allowed to say they would support you being shot? I happen to think they shouldn't, but wonder what you think.

gottem
December 6, 2024 at 7:17 PM
Yeah well, you can't just pretend toxicity is riskless. It is not. History is riddled with people who lost their lives to litigated and re-litigated conflicts that often initially stem from isolated events many cheer as "justified". I have empathy for you and your family, but I wont kill over it.
December 6, 2024 at 7:05 PM
I'm terribly sorry, no one should have to go through what you and your family went through.

But yes, I am. You don't get to play God and decide who deserves and doesn't deserve mercy because someone else did - when they shouldn't have. This shit is cyclical in unpredictable ways that never end well
December 6, 2024 at 7:01 PM
Vigilante violence is not an either or! Its an ALL. Because if you allow vigilante violence a little over here, you inevitably will get a different, potentially "less preferable" bit of vigilante violence over there.

Reminds me of a famous quote - an injustice anywhere is an injustice everywhere

The government can (and should!) prevent and stop and apprehend both the KKK and Thompson shooter. The KKK should be the higher priority, but the Thompson shooter shouldn't be celebrated either.
December 6, 2024 at 6:54 PM
On this, we agree that they should! Lynching is vigilante violence, which is bad on its own but made worse by the fact it is driven by unjust racial violence.
December 6, 2024 at 6:54 PM
If MLK theoretically had also happened to be a CEO who could bankrupt me and my family, James Earl Ray would have been 100% morally justified. Got it.
December 6, 2024 at 6:48 PM
The response to incivility isn't to offset it with incivility to someone else until the levels of incivility are equal, it's to squash incivility!
December 6, 2024 at 6:41 PM
We should be civil all the time. If you get to choose to be violently uncivil to one group, what's stopping the KKK from getting to choose to be violently uncivil to another? Incivility is pernicious. No one who has ever tried to declare a monopoly on it has ever succeeded.
December 6, 2024 at 6:39 PM
You act like MLK shot Strum Thurmond in the back lmao

Breaking the law =/= violence fam
December 6, 2024 at 6:36 PM
So if "a majority of people" wanted to persecute, say, trans folks, you'd be ok with that?

Yeah yeah "not the same as CEOs! Etc", but what if they were compelled by propaganda to see them that way, too?
