While the obvious solution would be a flying duck, I opted for a Mandarin Duck, which like the Common Merganser breeds in tree holes.

… and I'm sure that this oystercatcher had a much better sense of touch in his beak than we have in our fingers.

Gadwalls are very nice birds. One of my favorite picts from last winter was this Gadwall in flight 🪶

Though all the chaos we live in, it's often the small treats that bring us joy. Yesterday a tree creeper went by my window, so I literally pictured this little guy from my working table at a distance of about 3-4 m. 🪶

Best place to be on a Saturday, while most people doing their groceries.

Kestrel #birdoftheday - male approaching the female to mate.

The males are also nice.

Same day and occasion. I was sitting out in the open, and this pair came up to a few m.

To be fair, shooting Mergansers in Munich is a bit like shooting fish in a barrel. They are common along the whole river Isar, and if you don't follow them, they can come pretty close.

With that beak it looks to me like a young one from this year (they look like the females no matter the sex). The hook at the end and the beak overall need a bit of time to develop.

They are beautiful birds in Spring 🪶

Oh, it's #NationalBadgerDay?

Didn't knew, but at least have my own Welsh Badger to contribute 🦡

A spark of joy each time, indeed. 🪶

Oystercatcher's are pretty great catching all kind of prey on sandy beaches, too. This specimen had a success rate of about 80% catching small sandworms.

Manxis are the best. Just accidentally stumbled over this shot from last June near Skomer. 🪶

I never ever have read a termination letter as stupid as the one of the WP to Karen Attiah.

Democracy doesn't die in darkness.
It's murdered in broad daylight.

My guess about that redacted part:
„Notes about working for Trump“

That's why they took the binders Trump I - Trump IV.

A Great image of this very nice species!

Interestingly the Great Spotted Woodpecker has the same distribution of red as a young and adult on another continent (Northern hemisphere except US).

That's a really GREAT image, but I think it could be improved a LOT by adjusting the exposure in the photo editor of your choice.

It's waaaay underexposed, by about 1.5 fstops. Look at the histogram of this image:

Completely understood. BTW for 50 m, that's a hell of a shot!

Moving closer to any bird usually is less fruitful than waiting for them to approach you anyway, and for Choughs it's even worse as far as my experience goes.

A young Great Spotted Woodpecker (Dendrocopos major) just came along in front of my home office window 🥰🪶

Long tailed tits are totally adorable!

In winter we sometimes have the white variant (Aegithalos caudatus caudatus) which even tops the normal bird 🪶
