So many people casually game and don't know about some really spectacular gems like Dandara or SLARPG or In Stars and Time or Bobo Bay or any number of really awesome passion projects with insane work and love and time being put into them

There are so many games, its impossible for all of them to get recognition, but the fact that i see so few actual indie games featured on that stage, and even further, so few games dev'd by queer people or women or people of color like. It drives me CRAZY!!!

Like in the industry I care most about, the schmuck driving insanely high numbers of viewership every year is directing eyes at branded slop the genuinely beautiful and brilliant games could be showcased instead

After being taught for so long that my experience, effort, and skill isn't enough to change things, its hard to feel like the situation will improve without some sort of miracle.

It feels really bleak, is all. Im not going to stop trying to improve or do the things I love but its hard not to occasionally feel hopeless when I acknowledge im drowning and then acknowledge all the other people drowning around me as well.

Especially when im trying my hardest to look out for myself, who is neurodivergent and queer and latinx, and my partner, who is disabled and queer and indigenous, it feels impossible to live. We have no opportunity to unpack our trauma or improve ourselves because of this financial struggle.

And that's not unheard of, either. Its happened before, in bad economic times of history, and it'll happen again. It's totally possible there is just no way out of this and we all get royally fucked by an uncaring world and an overly oppressive system.

Especially when every single industry seems to not want more people, and is working to *reduce* the amount of man power in favor of machines??? It just feels so bleak. Like if there isn't some sort of financial miracle we'll all be left to drown for the rest of our lives.

So so many people are struggling, myself included, and its gotten bad enough to the point where I can't envision a future where that's not the widespread case. How are so many people supposed to get back on their feet and become self-sufficient again?

And even the ones that will belittle you or reduce you to just a face are seemingly impossible to work for because they hire nobody and lay everyone else off for AI or "cost reduction".

In my experience searching thus far, businesses that care about and try to look out for their people are suffering and either can't pay a reasonable amount or can't even hire enough help.

Thats not even to mention the fact that people with reasonable white collar jobs that used to be reasonably well situated are finding themselves closer and closer to the bottom line *because* things are getting so much more expensive with no reprieve.
