Even I found the smell of it strong, I couldn’t even begin to imagine what it was to have a shifter’s sense of smell. I was convinced I would hate it. “Your aunt sounds like my older sister.” Our gazes met, and he gave me a half smile when he saw curiosity and expectation face. There was no way he would say something like that and not have to elaborate. “Last Yule, she decided it would be a good idea to go skinny dipping in the frozen lake near our pack. The idiot had a cold until Litha.”

Trying to prove you're not the impulsive and out of control witch you're known to be is not easy. Lunaryn will still try, not for her sake, but for those who can't protect themselves. An afterlife of punishment seems like a very small prize to pay for putting her morals aside.

Snip: Duty. It weighed heavy on my shoulders. The wants, the needs. They didn’t compare to the sense that I had to do what was best for my coven. I needed to be strong, maybe then I could make sure things were done properly and the younger ones could live in a coven that accepted them for who they were and not what they could bring to the table. My eyes found the spectral woman, whose smile promised she would be back as she disappeared into the air. I couldn’t run, even if I wanted to. The finality of it hit me like lighting and even though I knew my coven would resist, I had to try. Maybe if I did become the High Priestess, I could slowly influence change.
