My latest horror/delight is googling my own stories and seeing what the AI gets wrong about them
A screenshot of Google AI's summary of the characters in my fantasy story "The Feather Tree". The summary contains the following inaccuracies: it claims that the point of view is first-person plural (when it is actually third-person singular limited), claims the narrative is driven by character interactions (not really--it's driven by character reactions to an external circumstance), and claims that the characters are not universally likable (they were written to be likeable, and finding them unlikable is a very unusual read). I have underlined each of theses claims and added my own commentary: "Wrong-o", "Not really", and "Sounds like a personal problem", respectively.

I’m drafting a story longhand. (Non-writer) husband was curious about the process. Showed him a hot mess of a manuscript page and he said, “…I can’t”
A wrinkled, lined notebook page completely filled with print writing. Lots of text is crossed out in many different ways (bars, scribbles, wavy lines); text is written in different sizes and orientations in the margins and connected to spaces in the main text with lines of different curves and widths. Words or phrases have double arrows between them to indicate transposition. Some text is inserted into already-inserted text. I might be the only person who can make sense of this page.

A text reads, “Did you know it’s extremely difficult to search for shower curtains in a gold metallic color?” Followed by a grimacing face emoji. A text in reply reads, “HAHAHAHAHAHA”, and the original texter writes, “Yeaaaahhhh”.

Today’s long trail run: a segment of the Juan Bautista de Anza trail (far south of Tucson), featuring the Santa Cruz River (with cows).
A clear sky in winter mid-morning over river banks covered in dead brush and fallen leaves. A shallow river about 8 inches deep and 15 feet wide runs between the banks. Nearly denuded trees frame a herd of cows grazing on the opposite river bank. One cow stands on the near bank and stares at the camera.
