I don't know what happened to this team. Feels like only a few years ago that they were only a 'few' years from contending with their talent and rising stars. Doesn't seem like coaching (though I'm starting to think Sullivan is past his prime). Surprised there isn't more talk of Drury on thin ice

That site is cool. My son had a phase af few years back where he wanted to find all the hurricanes (and similar swirlies) in the world on that site. We wasted much time together there!

When a person recalls a memory, the brain actual "re-writes" that memory back. So a memory is not a static store of facts. This has fascinating implications (wisdom with age, memory corruption), but from the filter framing it;s like the brain is updating the memory to the current filter version.

but there's a feedback dynamic where our experiences/memories also shapes our filters (which then affects future memories). So from that perspective, our memories are timestamps of past filters. And what we know about human memory kinda jibes with that framing.

succinctly in one of my fave song lyrics: "How would it be if u could see the world through my eyes?".

Our brain is overloaded with information from the senses, and it builds the filters needed to manage that flow (what's useful/important). This, in turn, affects what can be stored in memory.

This is great stuff, I'm really enjoying these threads as I'm trying to build my own model. but also, coming from a Neurosci Phd, i enjoy how all these discussions relate to us humans. That phrase "memory requires identity" triggered a flood of thoughts that I formed during my PhD, summed up

Interesting. So instead of saying "players (or team) should shoot more", they should really say "coach should change tactics to generate more shots".

I like the blue one better myself, but do appreciate the post popping out more. What about changing posts to a different colour in the blue version?

Ya, this. I didn't know I had ADHD til my son got diagnosed. Looking back the signs are there, procrastn. being a big one. My motto at school was "if it wasn't for the last minute nothing would get done".

The challenge w my son is finding the motivations other than me being a stressor for him.

She's seen the internal polls, she doesn't want to get off the government gravy train. I saw some speculation she's got aspirations for a higher position.

Ah, that was YOU who brought the rain this weekend. Hrmph...*grumble grumble*... welcome.

Ah, as my favourite highschool math teacher would say "a thing of beauty, a joy forever"

At least the country has a president who can help unite....oh man, things are going to get real bad...

Don't care for Newsom, but what I enjoy is Trumpist's reactions to his schtick.Their core instinct is to attack Democratic figureheads, so they can't ignore him. But since he's emulating Trump, they come up with real pretzel logic trying to mock him but also explaining why it doesn't apply to Trump

Ya, I came to reply this. I never thought much of Pine until I saw him in D&D. Really stands out there.
June 29, 2025 at 12:58 AM
Yeah, totally. My only real exposure to him is his Beast Games (my kids wanted to watch it) and he's just so awkward. Though part of that could be he's not the right fit to host that type of setup, but it really seemed like more than that

Some lucky coach is getting a prime gig next year. Barring a complete collapse, that coach is going to cement their place in the career coaching carousel.
June 6, 2025 at 3:52 PM
Ya, 100%. I think DeBoer is alright as a coach, and has had enough success that I'd like to see him win a cup. But it's easier to find an equivalent or better coach.

Younger me tips his cap to you! Old me stares blankly at your reply, recognizing words but the mind... just... can't... and then moves on to the next set of posts.

I'm enjoying it, but I'm old, and at this point it's my OCD that's dragging me to the finish!
June 6, 2025 at 3:03 AM
Oh man really? I bot it recently b/c years ago i lost my 1st attempt partway. Thought I had made it far, and it bugged me I never finished. Turns out I wasnt close! This game is waaaay bigger than I thot--I can't imagine starting a new game again.

Coach: "What can I do for you Norm?"
Norm: "Well, I'm gonna need something to kill time before my 2nd beer. How about a 1st one?"
