A friend had died at 34, just 3 days after I'd submitted my thesis for examination - so I was still very much questioning my own mortality at that point.
I have too many friends who will forever be in their early 20's.

I did part of my viva standing because my hips hurt too much to stay sat down. My examiners went "wait until you get to our age (50+)"
My first thought was to respond with "well considering the ages at which my friends have died, I'm not so sure I'll actually get that old".

Aye. I swear I turned 30 and my entire body started to fall apart. Ok, so my immune system didn't go rogue and turn on itself; just my connective tissues seem to have finally gone "thanks but I think that's us done".

And yet if you say "I don't feel safe with Dr X", you know that's just going to be used as evidence of you being one of those manky eww, PD lot.

I feel like I've said this before, but the software carpentry course is why/ how I started coding. Watching Christopher writing Bash, and it somehow making sense to me.

I used to do 3 and it wasn't terrible, as it was mostly through tiny villages - but 4 miles, in Birmingham (assuming the driving population understands the highway code as well as they do in Glasgow - i.e. they don't), rush hour... not my idea of fun.

I maintain BRFBs wouldn't be so bad if you atleast knew you were doing it?
The number of times I'd inadvertently skin pick during sessions with my mentor, and not realise until I'm bleeding... I did it so often Sonia wouldn't even flinch towards the end.

I had a housemate like you. She got so pissed off with one of our housemates having an electric heater when he wasn't supposed to, she took the 9A fuse out the plug, asked the electronics workshop at uni to help her blow it and in the interim, replaced the 9A fuse with a 3A one.

ooh, the number of academics who I think of as: "I assume you think your work's important, but you didn't use the microphone so I couldn't hear a thing, so it can't really be that good."

Bobby technically isn't a puppy, sleeps like one though! The way we nearly have to drag him out of bed for a wee on a Saturday morning.

Worst bit is, my receptive knowledge is still mostly intact - think read out and translated an Erasmus student's letter from the funding body from German to English with little difficulty. She literally had to pick her jaw up off the floor.
