When people say that something is destroying democracy, I wonder what they actually mean by democracy? I am sure they don't mean participatory democracy. It looks like they mean rule by the most popular but is that democracy?

They are different voices trying to ensure that no one is treated badly. Instead, we see small parties trying to get the maximum from their fight for power. Sadly it shows our humanity which is about power over others rather than compassion, concern, and the wellbeing of all.

I cannot help feeling that we are losing the intent of proportional representation in the negotiations to become part of NZ government. Surely proportional representation is about ensuring all voices are heard. All parties elected are part of government.

I have now been back in NZ 12 months and more in love with the place than I ever have been. Helps that I am in the South Island right now taking in some amazing scenery and meeting relatives that I have not seen for years.
