Mind you, scientific endeavors often start with assumptions. None of it is 'pure'. Best to remember that if tempted to deify 'hard science'.

The whole concept of philosophy is essentially flawed, at best an intellectual exercise, (admittedly quite a fun one for some of us.) You can't have a line of philosophical thought without first starting with some sort of premise.
