How could he have let this happen?
Gaz's family visits first. Price has to wait for his turn to see him. He ends up going back to base, to rest, to shower, to inform his team that Gaz has made it.
He'll visit tomorrow.

End of pt 1

Gaz makes it.
It's touch and go for a while but he makes it.
He'd been pushing his body too hard without enough rest, the doctors estimate.
It leaves Price to wonder - what did he miss? Could he have prevented this? Did he have symptoms that he didn't tell about?
November 12, 2025 at 9:54 AM
during visiting hours.
"If he makes it that long," Price spits out and the nurse looks unimpressed by his tantrum, if empathetic.
"He's in good hands," she says, an empty platitude. "But you can wait here if you want."
And so he does, head in his hands. A silent prayer.
November 12, 2025 at 9:54 AM
But he has to hold on to hope. There's nothing else he can do.
To his frustration he doesn't have any legal rights over Gaz in the hospital. He's not allowed any information about him until things calm down, though they do tell him that he's alive. They tell him to come again
November 12, 2025 at 9:54 AM
It's more waiting after that.
Price drives to the hospital like a maniac, impatient and scared - he's afraid he'll get to the hospital only to hear that Gaz has been declared dead on the way, that he will hear the worst news of his life when he gets to his destination.
November 12, 2025 at 9:54 AM
After what feels like forever the ambulance arrives, the paramedics taking over the situation and taking off with Gaz.
Price dismisses the practice, says he'll go to the hospital to be with Gaz. He's off before anyone can even think to protest - not that anyone does.

Soap breaks Gaz's ribs. The awful crunch under his hands will keep returning to his nightmares in the weeks to come. He freezes for just a moment.
"Keep going!" Ghost snaps.
"I broke his--"
"Keep going, Sergeant!"
And Soap does.
November 12, 2025 at 9:54 AM
Soap is holding on to Gaz's hand, not saying a word, just staring at his unconscious friend, praying to God, or any god, for this nightmare to end.
"Let me take over," he says then, seeing Ghost getting tired.
Ghost shakes his head. "I can keep going."
"You're tired. Let me."
