Well...

S-band is the frequency range used by ATC and weather radars...

Pence rocking the narrow focus S-band look.

Always fun to watch the meter cross 2000 ppm within seconds of the probe hitting the flue.

One of the good things about modern furnaces is that they will show damage to the heat exchanger on combustion analysis before you get CO leakage into the occupied space. Generally.

And that's why you check flue gas CO on every seasonal PM/Clean & Check.

Made one vendor at a Renaissance faire very nervous for a minute.
November 20, 2025 at 6:12 PM
Are suggesting the USPS might be nervous about transporting radioactive material?
November 20, 2025 at 4:43 PM
I did end up buy myself a geiger counter too.

It's been fun waving it over the apatite at rock acrystal dealers abd setting off the alarms.
November 20, 2025 at 4:05 PM
Notice the pine needles? Has qe not had rain recently this one could have spread quickly.
November 20, 2025 at 4:15 AM
People too smart to realize how dumb they are.
November 20, 2025 at 4:14 AM
Not shown is the scorching/melting on the vinyl siding of the building.

American building practices scare me some days.

To be fair, given that the prime export of the U.S. is actually culture (Coke, McDonalds, Hollywood) I suspect we're supplying a great many villages with outsourced idiots.
November 20, 2025 at 2:55 AM
Understatement.

Helps that I know the local fire department is a mixed professional/volly department with automatic mutual aid through the MABAS 43 box.

Structure fire there would have gotten apparatus from 3 cities and an army installation on the 1st alarm. That's a lot of paperwork.
November 20, 2025 at 2:49 AM
I mean...
This is idiocy bordering on malicious.
November 20, 2025 at 2:44 AM
I was....terse with the onsite safety person.

Especially when I pointed out that since the gas meter and shut off was only two meters away if this had gotten much worse the fire department would have had to shut down gas to the whole industrial park.
November 20, 2025 at 2:43 AM
The site's safety person and I had a nice little chat about all the ways this could have gone poorly. It helps drive the point home when you can give them the timeline of events that could have happened.

So because of the genius decision to use a butt can made of flammable material we ended up with all the conductors of a 440 VAC condenser and it's control wiring exposed. Thankfully the breaker tripped when someone tossed a bucket of water on the fire.
November 20, 2025 at 2:36 AM
Yup.

Conveniently set between the condenser and the disconnect.

Next to the vinyl siding.

Just a few feet from the gas meter.

Tune in tomorrow for the next installment of The Dumb and the Clueless.
November 19, 2025 at 2:42 AM
Fortunately (or not) the supply of fools is not affected by tariff fuckery so there will be plenty of idiotic shenanigans to watch.
November 19, 2025 at 2:14 AM
You know...
That hadn't occurred to me. I was just picturing a normal plastic bucket.

But knowing what sort of thing this customer makes has me very curious indeed.
November 19, 2025 at 2:12 AM
Absolutely.
November 19, 2025 at 2:10 AM
I suspect I will be taking lots of pictures.
