hm since the wood tone is so warm, maybe you want to go for a more periwinkle tile? lighter color so the brightness contrast with the wood isn't so stark, and some blue to offset the purple hue for a more gentle complementary color scheme. imo direct complementary colors can be great 1/2

a much more saturated purple, otherwise it may get washed out by the wood and appear gray instead 2/2

from a practical standpoint, you want to minimize the amount of grout you have to clean so it's less of a pain/less intensive. the long tiles are beautiful aesthetically and should be easier to clean! also, depending on the saturation of the cabinet wood, you may want to pick 1/2

i think a lot of sword poses could be utilized for drawing scythes (both swing), perhaps a spear instead? i haven't seen many pose refs with those, and the motions are quite different so you can't easily use a sword ref for one. love the work you're doing btw :)
