I have always loved this style of photograph. I often try and use negative space when it come to bird photography especially. the birds are all so unique they deserve a space to shine. Here are a couple of other photos you might like .

Its in the glacial Valley outside of Wanaka . There is a ski resort nearby called the treble cone ski area.

Believe it or not this isn't stacked. Just a 20 second exposure + light painting the the foreground. You can see the slight tails on the stars when the image is enlarged too much. i did edit to reduce the "noise" which was mainly the extra small stars outside the galaxy.

the Otways were a favourite place for photograph. From the Ash to redwoods trees, the glow worms and the mushrooms. it truly is a unique place to photograph.

Yes I used to live in Melbourne before moving to the States. I used to travel down the great ocean road a lot.

Yes I took it in New Zealand. It's amazing what you can see under a dark sky.

Its well worth the effort to find the dark sky's. I've recently moved from Australia to the USA and I can't believe the difference in the number I stars I see now. The sky here feels muted in comparison. I know they are still out there I now just have to travel much further to find them.
