@cottagecoregoblin.bsky.social, I think that is the best rule of thumb I’ve seen encapsulated on approaching AI and politics. This year will undoubtedly be a shit show. Even if we can filter out presidential elections well, just imagine all the house and local races? Hold on to your butts!

For the companies, that’s a fair argument. If they curated the data, then they should have known better to not use IP that isn’t theirs. But what about the users of the model?

IP belongs to its creators. Gen AI is exciting, and it’s awesome to see the enthusiasm, but data used for foundation models is gaining (deservedly so) more scrutiny. Transparency on how models are trained is important…you don’t want to inadvertently set yourself up violating IP laws.
