It's 3 things though isn't it? 1. Installation of right-wing management by Cameron 2. Attempts by said management to influence news agenda 3. Political campaign to push it further right/destroy it. None of which seems to involve the incumbent Labour government doing anything at all to save it.

The usual suspects are loudly banging the destruction of the BBC drum. The most absurd post on X was from the disgraced former PM BJ saying he was going to withold his BBC licence fee.

Also, large part of reason BBC is so challenged by competition (although I would argue still pulling its weight) - the reason Montgomerie cites for its survival not really mattering - is down to the savage c40%cut to its public funding by govts he supported 2010-24. The definition of chutzpah!

A media like that in the #US, with no proper regulation, no public service requirement or responsibility, has become a free for all and a spreader of the most vile ideologies, unchallenged. What happens there could come here if the #BBC+broadcasting regulation are destroyed.

He correctly points to Tucker Carlson’s fawning interviews with “authoritarian leaders” ie Putin,+with Nick Fuentes whose repulsive anti-Semitism Carlson platforms with no challenge. And to the stance of Megan Kelly who says her friendship with Carlson is more important than tackling him on this.
