Agreed. Keep posting! There is a tiny community of people who post about space law, governance, risks, etc. It’s great to have interaction on such an important topic. Your hard hat makes me think we might be able to talk about space resources sometime (aka space mining)!

And that debris would lead to a cascade of collisions that would take out the space assets of ALL states. A full-on Kessler Effect/Syndrome. It’s just too risky.

My undergrad in engineering and my education in space law, has me loving this thread. It’s on the outer bounds of my proficiency, but an EMP, which would require a nuclear detonation in outer space, is too risky to the launching states’ other assets in space. There would be tremendous debris.

\_(ツ)_/ I don’t think much of the art. XI provision requiring launching states to supervise the activities of space actors. For example, in the US, space activities are exempt from any environmental oversight. So who knows what’s out there? It’s all dependent on the good chaps theory of governance.

Mostly RTGs, which can be characterized as a type of nuclear powered battery, where decaying plutonium is converted into energy that is used to power the mission. Not a lot of moving parts. While RTGs have historically been the most prevalent type, now we also have miniaturized fission reactors.

Not that international law is of any concern to Russia, but the 1967 OST prohibits the placement of nuclear weapons in outer space. So, must not be true.

Thanks for the tip! You might also be interested in Imogen Napper’s scholarship related to space debris and oceanic plastic contamination. There’s an accessible intro in Science (June 23). If you come across anything good relating to the governance of space resources (mining), I’d be interested!

Asshole and Dolly Purrton are definitely related. She’s all tired out after destroying a few ceilings.

Ah, the OST! But I don’t recognize the book. What’s the title?

I just made a pot of those myself! Overnight soak then stovetop for 2-3 hours. Yum!

There are 20+ copies on eBay, all for under $20. Some have different covers. There is at least one other book with the same name. Be sure to check the author.

My husband and son both got it last week. No side effects other than a sore arm for 24-28 hours. I'm getting mine on the 12th.

Each county is required to impanel a civil grand jury at least once per year. Each grand jury reports to the judiciary (a superior court judge) and investigates matters referred to it by citizens (submittals can be anonymous) and is also required to inspect all detention facilities in the county.

Perhaps you don’t know about grand juries in California? All counties are required to convene a grand jury annually. Definitely not a tool of the state.
