Inspired by a bit of research at the Knowsley Archives, we've added a page on the parishes of Kirkby and Simonswood. Kirkby can trace its history back to 870 AD. The civil parish seems to have started in 1866 and lasted until it became Kirkby Urban District in 1958, and then abolished in 1974!
