and I don't know where you get your data on how carbon intensive it is over dollars, be interested to see that report but sounds fishy to me, for instance all the bitcoin mining in texas using the grid is fueled by natural gas. thats energy being used that didn't need to be.

my bank account is federally insured, who insures bitcoin? I know a lot of people have pumped money into it doesn't make it any more real, its just a house of cards waiting to collapse, like so many exchanges have. and a single bitcoin transaction takes over 1000 times more energy than a credit card

also if the miners should find anything more profitable and switch then all bitcoin would crash into nothingness. bitcoin doesn't exist, its a block chain ledger only. and as energy prices go up it will become less profitable. its only value is in the people willing to buy it.

sure, dollars spend every where, they are real and are backed by the US Government, and while there is a cost to their manufacture its so much cheaper than crypto which isn't backed by anyone and has no intrinsic value, unlike precious metals.

It's amusing that all those people that couldn't operate a VCR or the modern equivalent are expected to understand and replicate science without any education in the various subjects. Most things are more advanced than say what scientific principles can be demo'd by Bill Nye using household items.

kind of like when trump put an oil man in charge of the EPA.

was not my take on the movie.

I totally missed the fact that Gary Oldman played Dracula. must have been a great makeup job. I could only remember Anthony Hopkins and Keanu Reeves being in it. Now I have to re-watch it

so we went from drilling on something that never happened to something that happens far too often.
December 4, 2023 at 6:11 AM
I have to disagree, last report I saw it consumed the same about of energy as a medium size country, and for what to continuously preform a math calculation with the reward being something that doesn't actually exist.

Yes but don't know how effective they where, we had one machine for stripping nonskid off the deck we called big Bertha, when it was running you could hear it all over the ship. I'll check with my doctor on ne t check up. And I've done the hanging over the side painting bit.

Looks cool but not for me, 1 I'm more of a shower person, 2 on the occasions that I did bathe with a woman the point was closeness not just to watch each other soak.

No I haven't, pretty sure my hearing loss is from close proximity to harrier jets taking off and landing when I was on a LHA in the navy. Or it could be from all the hours spent chipping on grinding paint.
December 3, 2023 at 6:05 PM
I already know I have hearing loss, got a constant ringing too for over 20 years, but as far as I know there's nothing they can do about it.

I get my weather directly from the NOAA weather satellites as they pass overhead using a laptop, a software defined radio and a home made antenna.
December 3, 2023 at 5:20 PM
See they ask for realism but when you go that extra step suddenly it's too real
December 3, 2023 at 5:14 PM
thats both LOL and ewwwww :-D
December 3, 2023 at 4:11 PM
I got one of these for my mom like 12 years ago because she lost strength in her arms and hands. It works really well. Seen others that just sit on the jar like smaller hand held versions but I don't know how well they work.
December 3, 2023 at 4:07 PM
LOL
December 3, 2023 at 4:02 PM
Its not that there wasn't space for jack, its that the thing wouldn't have supported the weight of both of them.
December 3, 2023 at 4:01 PM
Something I'd really like for the NYT to dig into is how much energy is being used on AI, and I think we need to know before its wasting as much energy as bitcoin mining.
