"People often, often people" is giving me a headache

Hard to square the circle of both claims the piece is making, that Hickenlooper isn't the centrist dem you should be worried about, and there exists a centrist machine that backs Hickenlooper and will ruin upstart progressive should they choose to take on power

One of the most dispiriting things about social media is that we all see the destruction of kiwi farms tactics, and then just go ahead and use the same tactics on ourselves

damn I'm sure he'll be an invaluable asset in the fight against the quick trip at el rancho

Like even if you're ignoring every policy position, this just makes him seem weak. Like he's trying to create a constituency based entirely on like 15 Dem consultants and Biden state department guys

I haven't really followed Buttigieg's career but I always heard normies liked him because he showed up on Fox News and yelled at conservatives so I assumed he had to be somewhat effective. But between this and the weasel-mouthed shit about trans people, I'm just left wondering how this is their guy

And fwiw: even if we say that "the right to change one's sex" is materially focused (and to some extent it is), it's still using the language of liberalism because that language is very legible to Americans. I don't buy at all that liberalism is opposed to talking about material concerns

Not the vague posting point: a squishy definition of "liberalism" is really not helping her point. Holding the 14th amendment as a counter to a certain type of liberalism makes no sense to me. The reconstruction amendments were (in part) a make good on the enlightenment liberalism of the revolution

Didn't golden have one of those growth limiting ordinances? Pretty rich for her to claim they're doing their part

I think even with the unique advantages of RCV and Cuomo being the worst, it seems to me that NYC is one of the harder places to do insurgent primaries? There's a reason that ny keeps producing people like hochul, Adams, Jefferies, and Schumer

I feel like even the most realpolitik, believe nothing sort should be in favor of detention center visits because it seems the only way Dems can capture attention in an attention economy so fully aligned against them
June 20, 2025 at 7:52 PM
Funny how this set always says the demonization of trans people by the right is much worse but then only ever focuses on perceived overreach by democrats
May 29, 2025 at 8:05 PM
This group of posters is maybe the most enamored with inventing a guy to argue with outside of explicitly right wing spaces
April 15, 2025 at 6:25 PM
Between this and Bennett entering the governor race, seems like we're getting a lot of spineless establishment Dems using recognition to box the possibility of anyone who might want to actually fight instead of conceeding constantly. Pretty disappointing

The thinking went "everything in Japan is conservative" -> "what's the great art of Japan?" -> "Sonic, Mario, Zelda, and nothing else"
March 31, 2025 at 2:03 PM
certainly some of it still persists in media, and it's I guess important to note that agp is itself based on a deeper and more pernicious oppositional sexism, but *still* wild that you'd do all the coming to terms of transition and not dispose of this bullshit while you're at it
March 13, 2025 at 5:14 PM
If these are people who didn't grow up in that system, that heard about Blanchard and decided "yeah that accurately categorizes how I feel about the world," that's uhh fucking wild

Colorado and either 3+ months or it got lost in the mail. Not sure
February 20, 2025 at 8:47 PM
Man what the fuck do those last two paragraphs even mean? "The activists' strategy pales in comparison to my strategy, doing absolutely fuck all."
February 13, 2025 at 7:16 PM
what loser has the time and energy to elevate this to the DOE?

That's the thing I can't get over. This beat wicked! I have not seen wicked but that has defying gravity! This doesn't!

tangentially, i think this is also the reason that the Marc Andreesen/Palmer Lucky cohort are obsessed with LOTR, where the restoration fantasy is so direct. They fashion themselves as aragorn and the throne of man as an idealized masculinity or some such
January 13, 2025 at 10:09 PM
they definitely see gender as a tool of control, but as one who's roles are predestined. A person is born as a man, that confers him a duty of control, and part of that is taking what is rightfully his and has been taken from him. The performance of gender then is a fulfillment of destiny

I know the messiness of normal software, I've worked in barely functional programs, but every time I've talked to games people, the amount those things are stuck together with hot glue always surprises me
January 13, 2025 at 3:04 PM
Again from what I've heard, there's very little in the way of a common way to hand off work or assets between groups, meaning people like tech artists have to basically create a set of tools on the fly for managing changing processes
