ultimately though at your table you can choose to ignore chunks of the setting and pre-written stuff and play how you want. for example at my Tomb of Annihilation table i reduced the difficulty of the campaign and made the Thayans have a bigger presence as re-occurring villain's.

Without it you have one less reason for any conflict or point of character growth in the setting. for example: most Drow are evil slavers. Drizzt Do'Urden rose above that stigma and became a bad ass hero. as a player its a useful tool for fleshing out internal and external conflicts for the PC

for the record I'm considering dropping legacy material support going forward. its been 6 months- go update your viewers! (if you use firestorm like i do use the beta build because they are dragging their feet for no reason)
