Why is King's at COP? 💭

Professor Frans Berkhout, Assistant Principal (King's Climate & Sustainability), explains: “We attend to exercise the rights that observer status offers to us. This loss has partially contributed to increased drying during the dry season and higher ground-level temperatures. What is COP? 🤔

COP – short for Conference of the Parties – is the annual meeting of countries who are signed up to the United Nations Framework on the Convention of Climate Change (UNFCCC). Historic climate agreements between countries have been made at COP, like the Paris Agreement in 2015, which aimed to limit global warming below 2°C. COP also hosts a range of side events where delegates can find out about how the climate crisis is being tackled across the globe and collaborate with others on green solutions.
