Do you think Fateh or someone else will run as spoiler candidate? I could see Demuth + spoiler taking Walz out.

You’ve been wrong for months then. You’re literally saying “voting against Frey is actually voting for him unless it’s for the guy I want.” Meanwhile the guy you want has many of the same weaknesses as Frey - feeding our future, only moved here to get into politics, etc.

Fateh, Davis and Hampton combined for 56% of the first choice votes. This was an exceedingly winnable election for a viable non-Frey candidate.

They don’t wanna know Kathleen, too busy congratulating themselves for “stepping up” and losing a very winnable election. Hopefully some of the leaders on the left realize that they’re losing credibility along with elections.

Glad I was wrong, glad I don't gamble. Too fun to pick upsets!

Watching the excuses being made and obvious lessons ignored is sadder than the loss itself.

Thanks, if you're saying only a current elected would be able to get the required support, and no other elected wanted to run, then it makes sense. Also makes all the endorsements make sense. Losing strategy though, so hopefully people think twice next time.

Can you all explain the "he stepped up" argument? It's not like there wouldn't have been an election if he hadn't run, and the Frey camp did everything in their power to turn this into a head to head matchup with Fateh. Plus he lost! Not trying to be a jerk, I just don't get it.

It's (3). Fateh was a weak candidate with serious ethical issues. That's what people don't want to admit.
Imagine a straight up Frey vs. Fateh election - who wins?
Imagine a straight up Frey vs. Davis election - who wins?
Fact is Fateh not running at all would have given us a better chance.

The DFL will be relevant as long as there's a GOP to vote against. I get that you're mad, but I don't think Fateh would have won even if he'd have kept the endorsement.

Those that supported Fateh organizationally or monetarily need to learn these lessons. If they don't, those that ranked Fateh #1 but would have been fine with another non-Frey option need to learn to tune them out.
Some of us have been predicting this exact result since the start of the race.

Does the Fateh campaign not have paid staff? Do those staff not also run other political campaigns? Are they not responsible for strategy? Hey, maybe I'm the dumbass here and skipping the interview was Fateh's decision alone - if that's the case I'd be pissed if I was one of those volunteers.

In case I haven't been clear - Frey is more than damaged, he's totally incompetent, and should never have been elected in the first place. Don't vote for him. Me blaming consultants instead of Fateh is really me making excuses for him. I assume he has paid staff that help with strategy.

I am making assumptions here, and most of them are based on what I’ve seen on blue sky, so may be skewed. But it looks like there’s a relatively small cadre of people who work for the local left, and I have found their strategy lacking over the past few cycles. Too insular & not focused on winning.

The guy tries to claim that the powerful are afraid of him, but he himself is apparently afraid of an interview with the Star Tribune. Frey needs to go but Fateh is not and has never been the guy to beat him. Hopefully this is a wake up call for the local left - your consultants have blown it.

You really think they were outraged that she said “fuck”? Pretty sure they were mad about the “Jacob Frey” that followed it.

I’d say it’s a massive blunder and totally unsurprising. Dude says he’ll stand up to Trump, ICE, the police union, etc, but can’t handle an interview with the state’s largest newspaper? Come on.

Standardized stadiums, robot umpires, free runner, pitchers don’t bat - why even call it baseball at that point.

He was uncommitted when Trump was on the ballot. His campaign rhetoric grates on me - I don't think anyone is scared of him. "Baddies for Fateh" is lame. I don't think he has the charisma to overcome his faults.
Still - he's probably not a bad guy and he might even be a better mayor than Frey.

I've been a Fateh doubter since I saw a video of him praising Amy Bock. I think his proposal to make it even easier for non-profits to get state money is ridiculous. I don't think halting legislative progress to get Uber drivers a raise was smart, especially on the eve of a Trump presidency.

With the caveat that I have been wrong before, so who knows. But that's how I see it.
