Countdown to submitting your comment by Friday, Sept. 19 to show your love for roadless areas. Oppose the move to rescind the Roadless Area Rule of 2001. Share your comments with Congressional reps and your governor, too.

So true. (And with real cheetos taped to the poster). From Bend, Oregon's Fight Fascism Rally, August 2nd. #fightfascism

Wild birds are solace. As I write, my eyes flick to fluttering wings--Black-headed Grosbeak, Mountain Chickadees, Rufous Hummingbirds hovering, sunflower-bright Lesser Goldfinches, & Red Crossbill juveniles at the water baths. I've injured my hamstring and rely on closeby nature. Do you?

A Rufous Hummingbird is a fireball. Two in the air are dervishes! We love that they have nested within our tangled native yard. Fact: The Rufous Hummingbird makes one of the longest migratory journeys of any bird ( measured by body size). #birder #hummingbird #migration

Endangered Marbled Murrelets link marine reserves to protected old-growth forests. Their fate is our fate. I saw and heard my first murrelets flying into the wild forests at Cape Perpetua last week—citizen survey. Life changing ! Thanks Bird Alliance of Oregon. #birder #marbledmurrelet

Lewis's Woodpeckers are nesting in ponderosa snags within a nearby forest. The parents are tireless in feeding and guarding their young. This photo by fellow observer Michelle Kellogg shows a parent feeding wax currant berries to the chicks. We could learn lessons from birds on parenting.

Lewis's Woodpeckers teach us what we need to save--big trees and lots of snags. These radiant fly-catching migratory woodpeckers are affiliated with burned forests too. I watched a nesting pair this morning near our home, south of Bend, Oregon. #birder #birds #ornithology #birding #saveforests

SAVE OUR ENDANGERED SPECIES ACT! NONE OF US CAN LIVE WITHOUT A HOME.

MAY 19 is the deadline to comment to save the Endangered Species Act from a deadly proposal to change the definition of "harm" to not include a bird or animal's habitat. Say NO!

Yes to giving the River Ouse a voice! And recognizing the rights of nature. Inspiring. I will share locally for our Deschutes River in Bend, Oregon. Such a beautiful river and in trouble from diversions for irrigation that harms all the life the river harbors. Thank you.

Standing with Ukraine today on the Peace Corner in Bend, Oregon. We had a break in the torrential rain just for us...The world is watching.

When times are tough, turn to old western junipers for wisdom. Embrace broken branches, perches for bluebirds. If your heart feels hollow in sadness, know that you are making room for birds to nest within. Stretch your strong roots deep. Crack rocks. Find water. Give berries to birds.

Proud to be part of "No Kings Day" at the Peace Corner in Bend, Oregon, with 200 people waving signs like "Forget the Red vs Blue, it's Rich vs You" and a blue handmade sign that a mother and young daughter held up in multiple colors: KINDNESS. #nokingsday #savedemocracy #presidentsdayprotest

Speak up on this National Day of Protest. Bring back the illegally fired federal employees, bright faces of our future. I grew up in the National Park Service. Are we going to let Trump and Musk trash America's Best Idea? Illegally log, mine, and develop OUR public lands? That's their plan. DEFEND.
