Just a guy.
I always cringe at the “legal experts say” that the press adds to EVERYTHING no matter how clear.

Like if they did a story about rock that’s about to fall off a cliff, and feel the need to add “gravity experts say the rock will likely fall downwards.”

The DC press corps are content creators, not journalists. They see their job as creating politics-related entertainment content, not informing the public about their government.

There are tons of journalists who do focus on government—they earn about 20% as much and don’t get let on TV

I never like the framing of Trump as an elderly baby. It takes away fault and agency. He runs a system that routinely treats children like adults, literally toddlers are defending themselves in immigration proceeding.

Donald Trump is an adult man who should know better than to behave like this.

Dem leaders have this constant tick, “We cannot do a legitimate thing now because the GOP might do something corrupt in the future.”

If you let that change your behavior, all it does is accelerate potential future corruption into certain present corruption *and* save the GOP from having to do it!

Probably the best descriptor for the MAGA / John Roberts / Silicon Valley axis is that they’re Royalists. They don’t believe in democracy, and want to set up an elective monarchy with Donald Trump as founding king and themselves as the nobility.

I’m of the opinion that 99% of American social and political problems derive from the Internet and land use/urban planning.

Like a third of the Federalist Papers are basically “It would be horrible if Donald Trump became president and these features of the proposed Constitution will ensure that never happens.”
December 10, 2025 at 5:43 PM
The NYT makes clear every day that they see outspoken college kids as a greater danger than a police state led by Donald Trump. They can just *bribe* and flatter Trump, that doesn’t work on people with ideals.

Elites aren’t cowering, they just feel more aligned with the tyrant than the people.

These centrist consults fear a Democratic Party that’s strong without them far more than a weak Dem party. They want to suck up dollars and clout

The biggest factor was that he has always been the mainstream media‘s special little boy and they will always close ranks to protect him. I have never seen corporate media cape harder for a politician than they do for Donald Trump. It’s insane

If everything about Bonds were the same except he was as a white alcoholic who beat his wife, he’d be a HOFer and voters would pride themselves on overlooking his off-the-field distractions. They’d wave away the steroids

I’ve said for a while, Trump is not a masculine figure he’s a *camp* figure.

He has the persona of a 1990s drag queen: loud, heavy cake makeup, craves a camera, loves show tunes and the Village People, constant jazz hands, self-promoting, a crude prudishness. More Devine than Brando
December 9, 2025 at 7:42 PM
Trump was the one who ran on abstract issues, ”The Democrats and George Soros are giving your Christian democracy away to immigrants and trans people.” Pundits and Dems just don’t want to engage with those arguments bc they find them uncomfortable

Right-wing “liberty“ has always meant the freedom of the locally or economically powerful to oppress vulnerable people without federal interference.

The Justices’ position on corruption is probably informed by the massive bribes they’ve been taking from the “ignore corruption” side, which we seem to have just moved on from?

Justice Thomas vacations in a Winnebago this legal movement bought for him, of course he doesn’t see it as a risk

Justice Thomas vacations in a Winnebago this legal movement bought for him.

I don’t know why the MASSIVE BRIBES aren’t a constant part of this conversation.
December 8, 2025 at 4:38 PM
Isn’t the problem also that important members of Trump’s coalition have apparently been literally bribing SCOTUS justices with millions of dollars for decades?

We just stopped talking about that part.
December 8, 2025 at 4:36 PM
How come this conversation stopped bringing up the fact that folks with an intense interest in destroying Congressional power have been bribing these justices with millions of dollars for years? That issue never went away!
December 8, 2025 at 4:34 PM
sure, but that doesn’t change the nature of “Originalism” as a way to sidestep that convo entirely
December 8, 2025 at 2:57 AM
“Originalism” has always just been a cheat tcode to ignore binding precedent. The idea that all American jurisprudence from 1789 to present is meaningless is pure arrogance and sophistry.

Even if it were, “No, you don’t get it my murder was premeditated“ isn’t exculpatory.
