people were spilling their innermost secrets to ELIZA in the '60s, and it was a lot less sophisticated than today's LLMs. this should have been easily foreseen.

Pro tip: when meeting an author, particularly one noted for clever prose, remember that they might have had months or eve years to come up with their best lines. Speaking extemporaneously, they're not likely to be any more articulate than you or me. Some are, but they're the exception, not the rule.

(iTrek should be just Trek obviously... I originally had "it" there and decided to be more specific)

Y'know, there was a movie called "All Is Lost" starring Robert Redford. Spoiler: after struggling against setback after setback, he was rescued. All was not, in fact, lost.

The original Goethe quote is, "if courage is lost, all is lost." (Except in German, of course.) So have courage.

Those people are ignorant of history. TOS fandom was heavily female. The first fanzines and the first Trek-only convention were organized by women, and a woman organized the letter campaign that got Trek its third season. If anything, men eschewed iTrek because it wasn't "real" science fiction.

Hell, my sister and I called my parents' friends Jack and Vivian aunt and uncle, and they were no relation to us at all.

By default, the model doesn't always choose the absolute most likely next word. That's why you get that inconsistency. But there are knobs you can twist to remove that random element.

More than that... first the vet gives the pet a sedative so they fall asleep. Only then is a second injection given to stop the animal's heart. They never even know they're about to die.

Even knowing they don't suffer, it's heartwrenching. How much more so when it's a person, and they're suffering.

Someone else, or even Grijalva herself, should just swear her in. Sure, there's no authority or precedent for that, but the Trump administration is built on boldly doing things they don't have the authority to do and everyone else just letting it happen. Seems like fair play to me.

Traditionally, thoughts and behaviors become disorders when they significantly and negatively affect daily life. So worrying is normal, but worrying so much you can't leave home is a disorder. An inability to maintain personal relationships is certainly one way, but only one way, to qualify.

in addition to the effects of poverty on access to information, many Christian young people have been indoctrinated with the belief that anything "of the world" is inherently corrupt. that can be difficult to break free from when you've been hearing it your whole life.
