Am reminded too that ThropeGlen used to be Azure Solutions which used to be part of BT. Another thread I never managed to unravel. Congrats again @cr0ft0n.bsky.social. www.linkedin.com/company/thor...

Also... obviously this is a well documented issue, but it's just insane how much of the web just vanishes.

The @lrb.co.uk article has disappeared, www.lrb.co.uk/v30/n16/soar... and doesn't seem to be on the @waybackmachine.bsky.social. Bruce Schneier's blog has an except from a CNet piece (also offline) quoting the LRB piece. www.schneier.com/blog/archive...

I talked broadly about this with @kaifulee.bsky.social recently not in relation to OpenAI et al doing national specific system prompt but in relation to building national modals with some additional national specific language/culture/values on top of existing open source models.

My curiosity stems not from his UK effort but because it has occurred to me that many people care more about the planet than they do privacy, and that perhaps some people would be more up for taking a privacy preserving approach (with less data) if they could also tie it to reduced carbon.

I am interested in this though. I appreciate individualizing action pushes burden away from structural changes which is bad. And the act of deleting would use more power/water than leaving be if you compare 1h; but over… 10 years is that still right?

If you’ve not taken plunge to pay for Kagi yet, it’s worth it IMO. Only thing it’s not good for is shopping whereby annoyingly the all seeing Google eye does seem to have me dialed despite efforts to resist.
