Scientist leading research on balance, mobility, and ageing. Focused on digital health, wearable tech, and translating evidence into better support for movement across the lifespan.
President @kim-delbaere.bsky.social #ISPGR2025 announces the next conference location and adjourns the meeting - see you all in two years in Kyoto!
July 3, 2025 at 11:07 AM
Great keynote by Kathleen Cullen on neural circuits of postural control - exciting talk with lots of cool paradigms #ISPGR2025
July 3, 2025 at 7:45 AM
Catch me for the better version of you need it?
July 2, 2025 at 3:28 PM
Great keynote by Peter Shull on How to impact society through wearable research - lots of commercial/academic collaboration and real world impact!
July 2, 2025 at 7:18 AM
Awesome work by Daina Sturnieks on the effect of anxiety and cognitive dual tasking on balance recovery - clear age effect, no effect of cognitive load, axiety does seem to delay recovery, partially driven by shorter step length #ISPGR2025
July 1, 2025 at 3:16 PM
Great debate #ISPGR2025 on patient participation in research, results: 44% YES / 56% NO* but with a side note: *engagement should be meaningful. Well done @meghanambrens.bsky.social @moragtaylor.bsky.social and team :)
July 1, 2025 at 11:04 AM
Excited for the Yes/No debate with @kim-delbaere.bsky.social @meghanambrens.bsky.social @moragtaylor.bsky.social, Bas Bloem, Will Young on public involvement in research #ISPGR2025
July 1, 2025 at 10:11 AM
And up next Promising Scientist winner #ISPGR2025 @chrismccrum.bsky.social to talk about fall prevention through the lens of a sprints coach - we don’t expect athletes to win medals without practice, so why would we expect older people to recover from falls without it?
July 1, 2025 at 8:06 AM
And finally Inbal Paran on gray matter volumes and proactive and reactive balance - important role for putamen and amygdala for both, with a large role for cerebellum in proactive stepping and prefrontal cortex in reactive stepping #ISPGR2025
June 30, 2025 at 3:23 PM
And Steve Robinovitch on head injuries during falls - holding objects and successful reach to grasp reduced the risk for head impact or injury, bracing did not #ISPGR2025
June 30, 2025 at 3:01 PM
Maaike van Gameren on the cost-effectiveness of In Balans - currently not cost effective but large promise for the future #ISPGR2025
June 30, 2025 at 2:47 PM
Antoine Langeard on environmental fall risk hazards - nice work with photo diaries highlighting mostly uneven flooring, poor maintenance and obstacles which did not seem to differ between old and young, but fallers & those with fear of falls seemed to perceive fewer and different hazards #ISPGR2015
June 30, 2025 at 2:29 PM
And Jennifer Davis on life-space mobility and falls #ISPGR2025 - lower life-space was associated with more falls, emphasising the importance of adequate mobility to prevent falls
June 30, 2025 at 2:22 PM
And stellar Yoshi Okubo on perturbation training to prevent falls - short term reductions and more effective for slips than for trips but still fairly large effect 50-%! on injuries from falls #ISPGR2025
June 30, 2025 at 2:01 PM
Great talk by Rudhi Purohit on changes in beta frequencies during motor adaptation to slips #ISPGR2025
June 30, 2025 at 1:54 PM
Honorary member @bjmcfadyen.bsky.social receiving his lifetime achievement award at #ISPGR2025. Thank you for your (continued :)) contribution, both to science and to the society @ispgr.bsky.social
June 30, 2025 at 7:40 AM
Come join us today at #ISPGR2025 symposium 3 on AI for falls (1.30pm in 0.4) and meet Emma Strijbos @rug.nl at poster P01-C17 to talk about our work on pain and gait @kim-delbaere.bsky.social
June 30, 2025 at 6:56 AM
And the first keynote of the conference #ISPGR2025 Bas Bloem with an engaging talk about motor problems in Parkinson’s disease
June 29, 2025 at 3:44 PM
Followed by hosts @melvynroerdink.bsky.social and Caterina Rosano introducing the lovely city of Maastricht, and the #ISPGR2025 conference on “productive interactions”
June 29, 2025 at 2:51 PM
And we’re off with #ISPGR2025 president @kim-delbaere.bsky.social opening a what promises to be exciting conference!
