kindness and patience is something the privileged can afford

my plan to be understanding and patient for 2024 lasted 3 days as people walked all over me, & I had to take a firm approach for people to actually see me (never mind treat me with basic respect)

Beyond being racist, the idea that standards are lower now is just laughably wrong. Every year, grad school applicants are more accomplished. If there’s a problem with “intellectual merit”, it is that we can expect *too much* and don’t give students breathing room to develop into critical thinkers.
This is breathtakingly racist and wildly ill-informed.

Stephens blames affirmative action for lowering a standard and yearns for an earlier model of “intellectual merit” in which he imagines the Harvard presidency was a reward for top scholars.
