Interesting. And probably valuable to a lot of people. But the one record I randomly clicked is definitely not … human. 🌿

Family picture. 😊
That’s Broken Foot in the middle, her mate on the right, and another male (?) on the left. Possibly an offspring? 🌿 🐺 #mammals

Here’s a still taken from the last cam capture. She looks pretty scrappy. Several nights in a row she sat there just looking around and sniffing the air. I can’t help feeling sad for her. 😢

(Ignore the cam date. Batteries died and I forgot to reset it. 🤦🏼‍♀️)

The beaver pond has frozen over. I’m not hopeful about the remaining beaver. There’s been no work done on the lodge and there are no branches planted in the water around it to hold her over the winter. Usually that’s done by now. I saw her on the cam ~ 3 weeks ago, but not since. 🦫 🌿 #mammals

Umm. Hello. That would be my tree. 🙄

This is one of the lake beavers. They’ve been really busy in the last few weeks. I found one tree cut down not 30 feet from the house. I’ve wrapped trees I particularly want to save. Everything else can be theirs. 🌿 🦫

This illustration just came up in one of my other channels and I love it so much! It’s called, “The Insects Orchestra” by Shotaro Honda. It appeared in a Japanese children’s magazine in 1922. What I wouldn’t give to have this on my wall. 😍 🌿 🦗 🐞 #art #music

I just finished listening to this book by @jonathanslaght.bsky.social
I highly recommend it for both the fascinating natural history of the Blakiston’s fish owl and for the harrowing adventure that comes with doing field research in the harsh remote environment of the Russian Far East. 🪶 🌿 🦉

The results after searching my iPhone photos for “otter”. 🤔🙄

5 out of 10 isn’t terrible (well it kind of is) but really, this is where we need decent AI. Imagine finally sorting & making searchable your decades of digital photos in mins? Honestly, “sort my photos” is my idea of an AI revolution.

A single otter seems to have moved into the beaver pond. I’ve caught it on cams over the last 2mos. Pond is only abt an acre, is < 1m deep, has no fish. Will it survive here all winter? Where are its people? The main otter fam is on the lake 1/2 km away. Just seems unusual that it’s here alone. 🌿

Two more from that shoot. I’m just not sure how well they’re going to show in vertical format like this. 🪶

Have you ever wondered where Swiss Family Robinson takes place? Perhaps the animals they encounter will provide a clue! 🤔 🌿

Today’s challenge— Cooper’s or Sharpie? I’m guessing Cooper’s based on size and maybe tail shape (?) but honestly 🤷🏼‍♀️
It was hunting at the bird feeders this morning.

In other news, my driveway turtles hatched this week! I had almost given up on them. Mama snapper laid this nest on June 6. We were away but got her on the security cam. So that was an incubation of ~120 days! The hatchlings all got away before I could see them. 🌿 🐢

Beaver update! 🦫 ☠️
This is a pic from the live cell-cam on the beaver carcass. That’s a fisher! The arrow points at the beav. In the video (which I posted at The Bad Place), you see the fisher drag the entire carcass into the brush! I’m going to have to go move both cams or the beav (🤢) later.
