That sucks. It's not the kind of thing im into but this kinda stuff always leads to crackdowns on other "distasteful" things if you let them start.

They do that on purpose because adoption of this AI garbage is terrible and not enough people will use it if they aren't forced into it, and without adoption they can't justify their spending.

When I turned that off, the tabs "Updates, Promotions, Social, InBox" were deleted by default. The tabs that existed BEFORE Gemini. #rage

and disabling it also disables the extremely useful and almost decade-old inbox sorting (inbox, promotions, updates, forums). Holding useful, old features hostage to coerce scraping!

Even wilder is that some organizations only consider X posts as appropriate social media outreach while disregarding Bluesky/Mastodon/other, and thus many parties are forced to keep using it to fill out contractual obligations in order to keep their funding 🫠

Yeah! This part's been puzzling me - whenever any news are around social media content, it's always X-only embeds/quotes that I see in the news articles. Baffling nonsense, especially since X is setup so that its embeds are blocked/unviewable by default unless you admit any cookies all the time.
