Thanks Peter. The long and short is I had a bad experience, one off experience with someone in the industry and when I pulled at how theyve secured positions of influence (chairman of the UK video game council etc) it just revealed a LOT that needs to change.

I'd really like it to be retroactive first. Maybe that's just me.

And again their contracts don't even mention adaptation. Can you see the concern ?

Which is what we're trying to change ...

*some authors are paid upfront.

Established ones. For clarity.

But adaptations still honour them

It's the same for tv writers, poets and short stories.

Why should game IP creators who write these stories be different?
April 28, 2025 at 3:37 PM
As far as I'm aware the contract at the time didn't include adaptations and I'm talking to the people behind it. We have to remember this was a time before the transmedia hot trend we have now. Even if it did, why should they be treated differently to authors? Authors are paid upfront by publishers?

This is all tied in. The union recognize its not fair but their hands are tied unless contracts change. The creators have also said their piece.

We need actual authorities on this and Valve ...see attached. Whatever philosophy you're hiding behind, please pull your arse out of it. #valve #kierstarmer #watchdog

The game itself weirdly isn't my issue (and it should be). The game and the devs are small, pathetic and pitiful.

Here's my big issue.

Why was this content legal to create in the first place? Why can't we identify these devs and why can't they be held accountable?

And then what? Kids? Animals?

The creator for No Mercy is American and has a patreon on which they are still collecting donations for what they made.

Are the FBI doing anything?

This game was available to children and adults and encouraged players to rape and torture their own family members.
