Women were less involved in industry-funded or large-sample RCTs (often high-impact), and more often employed in pharma (non-academic roles).
But: when the last author was a woman, the first author was more likely to be a woman too.

What we found:

Women = 40% of all authors

Only 37% of first authors and 26% of last authors are women

No improvement over time

Using the database from his and Michel Iudici's SNSF-funded project on transparency in RCTs (data.snf.ch/grants/grant...), we analysed ALL rheumatology RCTs published from 2009 to 2023.
That’s over 1,000 trials and nearly 11,000 authors.
