This means that women who aren’t “naturally beautiful” or fit the current feminine aesthetic are not going to be able to participate. It’s much more exclusionary and caters to young, wealthy, white women who naturally fit the western patriarchal ideal of feminine.

I know this is a bit of a stretch, but the misogyny, transphobia, and overall rise in fascism/racism seems to have influenced the rise in the “clean girl” makeup aesthetic that relies heavily on having good skin/access to good skincare and the time to take care of your skin.

This is just my personal opinion, but at least when heavy makeup and makeup tutorials were popular, there were more affordable dupes and with all of the content creators making videos, it was very accessible to learn how to do your makeup and be on trend.
