That's not what "painstaking" means. To take pains is to be extremely careful. If she's made an injury worse, the experience may have been "painful." Possibly you're being clever in some way subscribers will discover when they read the article, but it's bad communicating.

This is an afghan I crocheted as a young teenager in the mid-1970s. It's incredibly ugly and yet I hang onto it.
