I still mask now in winter (although I got a flu shot) in iffy situations: it’s better than nothing. I had cancer and my immune system is not (may never be) what it used to be, so… Yes hard to say what/if but it is quite clear to me that sustained lockdown would have helped better and faster.

I was told a few years ago they do not give derogations for this reason. My dad will have to call an ambulance or ask his neighbours for assistance if anything happens to him today.

Many people in Belgium take care of elderly relatives living elsewhere, especially during the weekend. But you never thought of that, did you? There is nothing funny about this. I do it myself every weekend and certain weekdays as well.
