Many of them already agricultural workers, restaurant & hotel workers, & especially fast food restaurant workers, working multiple part time jobs to feed their families & still falling short. Yet we ask them to save & “plan for” babies when they don’t get paid medical & family leave at those jobs.

Dr. Noor Abdalla’s—Mahmoud Khalil’s pregnant wife—letter to her husband should be a warning to all of us living in the U.S. under this regime, whether or not we are rightful citizens, whether or not we were born here, whether or not our parents were born here. This is absolutely unimaginable. 💔
In March, the Trump administration illegally arrested and detained Mahmoud Khalil, a graduate student at Columbia University and an advocate for Palestinian human rights. Khalil, a U.s. green card holder, was detained in New York while returning from an iftar dinner with his wife, Dr. Noor Abdalla, who is currently nine months pregnant. He was later put on a plane and sent to a detention facility in Louisiana without notice to his attorney or family. Since Khalil's arrest, the administration has doubled down on its unlawful policy of revoking people's green cards and visas based on their political beliefs and advocacy. [Highlighted portion:] To be clear: The First Amendment does not allow the government to retaliate against anyone for their speech. [End highlight] Ripping someone from their home, stripping them of their immigration status, and detaining them solely based on political viewpoint is an unconstitutional attempt by President Donald Trump to silence dissent. MOTHER JONES: The second group of ballots Griffin challenged-and the court ruled should be thrown out-came from voters who lived overseas, [poster highlighted—>]including members of the military. Even though Griffin voted that way twice as a member of the Army National Guard, he said those ballots should not count because they did not show strict forms of photo ID when submitting their votes, even though the State Board of Elections specifically exempted overseas voters from the state's new voter ID law, which went into effect for the 2024 cycle. These types of arrests-known as "collateral detention" -are becoming more common. "What we have been seeing is ICE at random detaining people who are not the people they're looking for," Murad Awawdeh, president and CEO of the New York Immigration Coalition, told The Intercept. "They go in allegedly looking for someone else and then they'll take whoever they can find just so they can meet their quota numbers that Donald Trump has put in place." THE NEW REPUBLIC: Willkie Farr & Gallagher, another major law firm, which happens to employ Doug Emhoff, announced a similar deal earlier Wednesday, leading to calls for the former second gentleman to resign. Two other major firms, WilmerHale and Jenner & Block, challenged the Trump administration's threat to revoke their security clearances as an unprecedented attack on the Sixth Amendment and a blatant attempt to chill the legal profession from taking up cases that aren't aligned with his political agenda. Another law firm, Perkins Coie, which was targeted for representing Hillary Clinton's 2016 presidential campaign, challenged a similar order last month and was granted a temporary injunction against the Trump administration's threat to revoke clearances and access. Last month, Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison caved to the administration and offered $40 million in free legal services, revoked its own DEI practices, and sold one of its own lawyers down the river, simply because he'd once investigated Trump for alleged financial crimes. Last month, Trump also targeted the firm Covington & Burling, suspending the security clearances of lawyers who had worked with former special prosecutor Jack Smith.

This part. It is futile. Because when there are no rules, when there is no respect for the law, the “rules” will constantly change to suit the lawless. And that is not sustainable. Either from a business perspective or a public one.

firebombed (in 1986). I was 8 months pregnant with my daughter at the time. I helped raise my stepdaughter and later, when our girls were 16 and 14, after six years of infertility, my husband and I had a son together. And we took guardianship of our nephew when he and our son were 12. Our nephew will graduate from college this spring. My boys deserve, and their generation deserves, to live with dignity. My husband has traveled extensively for work for the last 25 years and I have been here, holding down the fort, including a restaurant we had to close after 9/11. And, since 2017, 1 have been fighting for other women like me. For my daughters and granddaughters and for the women my boys will encounter. I am not okay without my husband's survivor benefits if he's gone before me. Which he likely will be. He's worked himself to death since he was 14. Please, Senator. dignity. My mother and her husband, an Air Force Veteran, deserve to continue to live with dignity in their retirement. My friend that I've known since kindergarten who relies on SSDI-and not nearly enough of it each month—deserves to be able to keep a roof over her head and to exist with dignity. With enough. She relies on Medicaid and she's already lost her food benefits. My cousin, who kept getting denied SSDI until after his third stroke finally left him wheelchair bound, deserves to live with dignity.
