Wow, those are some pretty shocking stats. It's definitely eye-opening and makes you think about how important literacy programs are.
National Literacy Institute: 21% of adults in the US were illiterate as of 2024. 54% of US adults have a literacy below a 6th-grade level (20% are below 5th-grade level). Worldwide the US ranks 36th in literacy. This is horrifying. It also explains a lot.
