"Why don't you spend your time making beautiful things?" can be rewritten as "why don't you work harder to earn less money?" sometimes we *do* because the byte mines gave us the means/because we want a different path for our lives/.... I grew up (often) poor and want solid security, which takes time

if I take three months to discover a performance fix or generate some piece of advice for some distributed system, a small company saves a bit of money at major expense but Microsoft might make exponentially more for a proportionately trivial expense. megascaling itself consolidates the labor market

hiring people who are deeply interested in product bottom-to-top is apparently not what the market thermogenically favors, at least for large employers. Big companies might not be more efficient at exploiting labor, but they have *scale* and that counts for much more

product direction in public companies is mostly dictated by what execs and marketing departments want, i.e. people who are all only particularly accountable to abstract forces of capital.

Most software jobs are in line-of-business, not product, so the working engineers you meet will reflect this

Jordan Lasker, apparently-but-unconfirmedly self-proclaimed "Jewish White Supremacist Nazi," is probably the most grating person I've ever had the "pleasure" of interacting with online. I don't know what these guys see in him beyond "that's my kind of evil asshole"

wow, agreed through and through. I usually tell people that if I was going to order an off-the-shelf build today I'd get ZSA Voyager but that they should consider Moonlander too.

one of these days I fear I will dive deeper into Datahand-likes e.g. Svalboard

I have some outstanding news for you stranger. Open up Google Chrome, type in "bing.com", type "pornography" into the rectangle, and press the enter key. Your entire world will be expanded

...but so far as toki ponists care it's still a cogent "place" worth taking inspiration from like many others. it is a weird thing for me to try explaining in so few words; you're doing fine trying to interpret it lol
November 9, 2025 at 6:50 PM
so I was going for *ma lon* with *lon* meaning something like "truth", so, "real-world places.

from *ma kon* I'm using the meaning/"unseen agent" sense of *kon*. Invisible, nebulous, abstract, logical places; i.e. Esperanto is not a language of one real place but a more abstract "place"
November 9, 2025 at 6:48 PM
with *la* being the "context particle," *ni la...* is something like "in the context of this, ..." basically I'm emphasizing I'm making a scoped claim, not a universal one.

*ma* means all the things like "place, land, earth" and its meaning often contains, like, a Discord server being a "place"
