You can also plug in a story idea you already have as the prompt and use this method to develop it further. Or a character, world, magic system, plot point, etc.
It's just a generally good way of brainstorming.

2) Make a mind map using the prompt
3) Do a stream of consciousness based on that mind map
4) Repeat

I really should read more cosmic horror. TBH my main inspo for making my WIP comic horror wasn't from other books, it was from TMA, Hatchetfield, and SCP stories. If anyone has recs, specifically for modern cosmic horror novels, I'd be thankful.
