First post here! To inaugurate this account, I'd like to share my recent work, now published in JACS.

Intercepting a Mycobacterial Biosynthetic Pathway with Covalent Labeling
The mycobacterial cell envelope plays both infectious and protective roles. Understanding its structure is crucial for unlocking the molecular basis underlying these functions. Studying glycans, the p...

More things to celebrate from Dec. - papers!
1) Alli's work examining CH-pi interactions computationally is now published in Chem Sci!
pubs.rsc.org/en/content/a...
2) Recent alumni, Deepsing and Deena, published their work on how heparan sulfate influences hPSC fate!

Heparan sulfate regulates the fate decisions of human pluripotent stem cells
Kiessling and colleagues developed EXT1−/− hPSCs to investigate the roles of HS polysaccharide in self-renewal and differentiation of hPSCs. The study revealed that HS is essential for early cell fate decisions of hPSCs toward mesoderm and endoderm lineages. HS deficiency allows for early ectoderm differentiation but impairs neuronal maturation.

December had many celebrations -- including those of our newly minted Ph.D.'s: Alan, Melanie, and Stephanie (@ssmelyansky.bsky.social)! Each of them are fantastic scientists & peer mentors that will excel in their next steps. Join us in congratulating them on completion of their doctoral theses! 🙌🎊

Gerard is a trailblazer, inside and outside of the lab! We are fortunate to be his labmates 🧪
“Attending SPISE completely changed my trajectory,” says Gerard Porter of the @kiesslinglab.bsky.social, who credits the five-week program offered by the Caribbean Science Foundation with increasing his self-confidence, reasoning skills, and love of science.

Really enjoyed the opportunity to have the @kiesslinglab.bsky.social collaborate with the Imperiali Group on exploring human lectin interactions with glycans. #glycotime Some initial findings are here: www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...
Glycan analysis probes inspired by human lectins for investigating host-microbe crosstalk
Human lectins are critical carbohydrate-binding proteins that recognize diverse glycoconjugates from microorganisms and can play a key role in host-microbe interactions. Despite their importance in im...
