If Murray had been drafted in the 3rd round, he’d have been soft-benched about 4 years ago and now would be the kind of backup who comes on occasionally and you’re like, “Oh yeah, I forgot he existed. He plays for the Panthers now. Huh.”

Yes, I will also accept illegal formation. “Wait a goddamn minute, that offense is doing something creative and innovative! Stop them now! Flag! Flag!”

What penalty would you abandon, the one that makes you shout at the TV “I don’t care! It doesn’t matter! Get on with the game!” Mine is illegal shift.

Increasing one-score results. Increasing kicker range. Touchback rules = one 1st down post-kickoff and you’re in FG range. So why are kickers so undervalued, treated like bargain-bin roster add-ons? Most teams don’t even have a kicking coach! (The ST coordinator is usually a former coverage guy.)

I need to know: Beyond the strapline pun, are the crabs also spelling something out? Because I’ve spent many minutes staring at this, trying to work out if they are, and I don’t know if there’s even anything there to find or not.

Is Miami’s primary problem McDaniels, Tua, Tyreek, or Miami?

Is any fan base as divorced from QB-expectations reality (ie 95% of QBs turn out average, great ones are a very rare lottery win) as Vikings fans? Feels like - cushioned by Cousins for 1,000 years, then Darnold 2.0, plus KOC QB Whisperer - most are certain JJMC’s success is automatic just … because.

35 yd touchback = many, many more kick returns. Second season of new kickoff format = fair chance one team has now developed (tush-push-style) an unstoppable play design for kick returns. Think we could see one team (or KR) absolutely demolishing the single-season record for KR touchdowns?

Age diminishes your ability to build a winning culture? Or you think his heart might not hold out for a whole season with the Vegas heat / Vegas showgirl temptations?

Will the Bears soon regret passing on a proven HC and brilliant culture-builder (Carroll) for an unproven schematics guy (Johnson)?

A note of caution though: Playing dutiful poodle to US presidents in the face of global opprobrium hasn’t always translated, in the end, into domestic approval or benefit for British PMs. Short-term diplomatic gains; long-term domestic disdain. The Brits, in the end, don’t like it, and don’t forget.

Pretty sure I’ve heard you try to make that joke work before, on The News Quiz about a year ago. So in a sense, you’re as bad as the junior doctors.

What do we know about the 49ers draft *process* - or how it’s changed lately - to give confidence this 2025 batch will cut it? First 7 ShanaLynch drafts ranged from average to awful. Last year was solid and Lynch hinted (“when we get consensus”) it came out of a retooled process behind the scenes?

Bella Vita, Broadway Market, London, c. 2016, collecting my takeaway pizza. But the waiter is not listening to me, his attention’s all on the guy behind me, who’d entered after me, here to collect his own pizza. Turn around. It’s Michael Fassbender, in a lime green tracksuit. He got his pizza first.

The Bengals (and Dolphins) were actually partly who I had in mind :) — teams not managing their rosters well, exemplified by overpaying for 2x WRs at the expense of other positions, and thus not having the success they should be having.
June 8, 2025 at 7:11 PM
Fair points, though SF just traded 1 WR rather than pay him, and are desperate to offload the other for same reason. Not saying WRs aren’t v. important, just sense a shift among GMs that the market has overheated a bit, wrt actual ROI on such cost, and due a little correction. Philly an outlier here

I dunno. You need so many in a pass-heavy league, and $30m x 2 is a lot of cap space for 1 position, when most of the successful teams lately (KC, Bills, Ravens, SF, GB, Texans, LAR) have prospered shunning big WR payouts. Very few of top 30 paid WRs are on A++ teams: tinyurl.com/4mr2nmym. Lets see!

Is the WR market (large talent pool vs high price) unbalanced and about to regress to the mean, with RB market going in opposite direction? i.e., With every speedy college kid wanting to play WR now, not RB, will 2025-28 see teams following GB’s model: don’t pay WRs, just draft more. There’s loads.

Eye-opening that, for all the talk of Farage as the threat stalking all major parties (“not just the Tories!” etc.), it’s Ed Davey who’s quietly become the preferred alternative choice for voters from every party. Only waverers, hilariously, are Lib Dems on Ed vs Keir Starmer. Which is so Lib Dem.
May 28, 2025 at 12:46 AM
Yes, Farage is shameless. And yes, what nerve. But Mr Sexed-Up Dossier calling out Mr Brexit for moaning about “the casual lies and careless attitudes of our political class” that “have let people down” is a self-referential, inwardly spiralling vortex of shamelessness and nerve.
