You have more money than God. But you want incentives to do good, moral things?

we do not measure an ocean just by the distance shore to shore. there is so much beauty and depth in the crossing. in how the waves shoal, crest, break, then shoal again.

trans- as a prefix, originating from the latin word for “across.” not just crossing from one thing to another, but a measure of the journey itself. an act of journeying, of discovery.

how long did i live before i heard the word “trans?” before i heard it used outside of its slur? how long did i live before i humanized another trans person? before i knew of a trans person off the internet? before i understood transness enough to connect it to myself?

i have never loved days of visibility because, candidly, i do not like being perceived. i struggle enough to remind others to use they/them pronouns. but i think of this kiddo, who didn’t know the future that was waiting for them.

that kiddo was trans too, they just didn’t have the language to say it. or if they did, they couldn’t picture the language outside of its abstractness. they couldn’t map it onto a real person. they couldn’t imagine it for themself.

but i also think of this kid, who always felt different from the rest of the boys in their grade and never understood why, who never wanted to play sports because they didn’t like the “energy” of the locker room or the competition, who never felt at home in a suit or even their own skin.
