Though, I'd be of the belief that the base spirit in a gin makes precious little difference to the end product (provided we're talking about 96% ethanol). I'd challenge anyone to tell the difference between the same gin made with whey alcohol or wheat alcohol.

Looking for an Irish source of ethanol, lots of Irish producers opted for whey ethanol. It's a good product.
