If prisons worked we wouldn’t have the highest rate of recall in Western Europe, and we certainly wouldn’t need to keep building more prisons! The causes of crime need to be at the front and centre of our criminal justice system - simply punishing people is not enough!

Agreeing with a former Conservative PM isn’t a usual position for me. Demonstrates just how far politics/Tory party have moved to the right when John Major is a breath of fresh air!
