Definitely. 4 has a lot of good concepts but the execution leaves a lot to be desired, and it stalls out towards the end.

I expect the 1 remake (and any other ones we get) will develop the world out slightly more. Some of the latitude for 1 I would grant is that it's a Playstation X game and was one of the first of its kind. Plus, part of the horror is the vagueness of whether the town was abandoned or all killed...

I want to say 1 and 4 address it more directly (it's been a while for me too lol) but looking at 4 we can see the otherworld and the real world are linked by all the deaths in the otherworld happening in the real world as well.

The 2 remake was really good, I'm excited for the 1 remake.

From what I remember, Silent Hill in the games is a normal town that's inhabited by spirits. Cult shenanigans are what cause a lot of the crazier supernatural events (or James's extreme guilt in 2.) James and Mary had vacationed in the town prior to the events of the game.
