If the next big thing does happen to be P2P, I urge everyone to look at it with about twice as much scrutiny as any server model. It takes only one bad actor to ruin it for everyone, even if the developer is trusted within this space.

The controversial portion will be that this extends to any sort of peer-to-peer sharing. As much as we'd love to all move away from a client-server method because of the single point of failure, a P2P method can create additional attacks from other bad actors, least of all by exposing your IP.

That said, and what you've all heard, is to be wary of anything immediately coming out as a replacement. The situation sucks, sure, but bad actors will usually try to capitalize on bad situations for maximum effect. If you're too eager for a replacement, you'll let your guard down.

I'm about as upset as anyone that Mare was shut down. I get a lot of joy in seeing people, chatting with them, showing off outfits, and all that stuff. Mare made all of that super easy and convenient which I appreciated.
