In the early 1900s some of the families on the island made wreaths out of crow's foot, holly or pine, filled a barrel with them and sent them to Baltimore to be sold by Capt. Norman Bryan where people were anxiously awaiting this wonderful fresh greenery from the Eastern Shore.

71 years ago, in 1953, after the Bay Bridge opened, Jimmy Ewing opened the Circle Restaurant. His brother Tommy , opened Holly's in 1955. This is Jimmy behind the counter. The second picture is two of his many waitresses over the years, Myrtle Burns and Isabelle Eckstorm.

Thanks to a generous gift from the estate of Lynne Riley-Coleman we will be able to open the new Kent
Island Heritage Center in Stevensville during mid-2025. Housed in an 1870 schoolhouse it will include a small museum and research library.
