First record for Hennepin County and second Minnesota state record for Mottled Duck (Anas fulvigula) this afternoon!

📍St. Louis Park, Minnesota
A duck stands facing to the right of the frame. Its body is speckled dark brown with a creamy cheek, yellow bill, and black gape patch. It stands in front of a female Mallard which gives a good comparison of the species. The Mallard has a lighter brown body, grayish streaked cheek, and orange bill. A duck stands with its chest towards the camera. Its head is turned to the right of the frame and its feathers of the left of its body flare out in the wind. Its body is a dark speckled brown with a creamy cheek-colored cheek, yellow bill, and black gape patch. A duck stands with its side to the camera facing to the right of the frame. Its dark brown feathers park near its rump to show its solid blue speculum patch with no white borders. Its cheek is creamy and its bill is yellow with a black gape patch. Three ducks stand in frame. The duck in focus stands with its chest away from the camera and its neck turned towards the left of the frame and head facing the camera. It is preening a single feather from its dark brown body. Its bill is yellow. The duck to the left is facing away and not in focus. The white borders of its speculum patch peek through its feathers. The third duck is in the bottom left corner of the frame facing the camera and out of focus. Its bill is orange with a large black patch in the middle.

Adorable Black-capped Chickadee (Poecile atricapillus) breaking through the snow at my bird feeder!

📍Minnesota
A small round bird has a clump of frozen seeds and nuts in its beak as it pulls them from a snow covered bird feeder while the sun rises behind it. The bird has a buffy cream belly with a gray back, black throat, white malar and ear patch, and black cap extending down the neck.

This Snowy Owl (Bubo scandiacus) was not a big fan of cooperating with me. I relocated her three times and every time I only got a few seconds to enjoy her.

Crazy camouflage on this little Brown Creeper (Certhia americana)!

A small round bird climbs vertically up the side of a tree. The bird is seen from the side with its back to the right of the frame. The bird has a white belly and throat with a brown back patterned almost identically to the bark of the tree is it on. Its beak is small and thin with a slight down curve to it. It uses its brown tail to prop itself up against the tree as it searches for food. A small round bird climbs vertically up the side of a tree. Its back is fully of browns, grays, reds, yellows, and some specks of white that make it appear invisible. It uses its brown tail to prop itself up against the tree as it searches for food.

This female Coppery-headed Emerald (Microchera cupreiceps) is easily one of the cutest hummingbirds I’ve ever seen 💜
