Santa reassuringly touches Death's shoulder and says "you did." Death open the present under the watchful eye of his scarf-wearing crow companion. The box contains a solar panel charger, headphones... ...And an old mp3 player shaped like a skull, with the control wheel in one of the eye sockets. Death dons the headphones, content. Death glides and dances thru the snow happily, listening to the music.

Santa says he saw Death listening under windows of human houses. Death is embarrassed again, explaining rapidly that they miss music, but without the internet around, they have to listen in to when humans play it, like they did during the Middle Ages. Santa gives Death a gift. Santa explains that since Death was technically a human that "believes" in him, he prepared a gift out of habit. Death replis that they didn't get Santa anything in return.

Santa thanks Death for their kind words. Death brushes him off, embarassed. Death adds that it doesn't matter what tales are told of them, they are always working. Santa replies that Death had this role a long time, even if they weren't born as a story. Death reacts in a panic, asking how Santa knows such a big secret. Santa explains that he knows Death used to be human because Santa's list is thorough, and older than him, implying the list he checks twice is its own magical entity. Death calms down. Santa adds that he is happy he ran into the Grim Reaper.

Santa calls himself a foolish old story waiting for a storyteller. Death looks at him, concerned and saddened. Death decides to reassure Santa by explaining that stories don't live and die like other things do, otherwise Death would collect them too. Stories grow and change. Santa wasn't always "Santa." Death says that one day, a kid is going to find a dusty book in a forgotten corner, and Santa shall "pop back in" in a new way. Death assumes his future incarnation may be called "the Red Present Wizard or whatever the floop."

See, this feels like the issue of 'what do you wanna eat?' when you ask a friend or something.

I've learned for me to ask 'what don't you want' but in this case 'what's a no/hard no for you' might help. Might.

Doesn't necessarily fix the problem, mind. ^^;
